Brad Merritt is an original co-founder of 54-40 and being a history buff, named the band 54-40 after US president, James Polk's campaign slogan, "54•40 or Fight!". Brad's early influences were The Sex Pistols, the Clash and Vancouver's many great punk rock groups.
In the early 80's, Neil and Brad traveled to England, where they were able to see some of their idols—bands such as Gang of Four and Joy Division—perform. Reinvigorated, they returned to Vancouver and hooked up with Ian Franey to form a punk trio Brad named 54-40
Brad's family business was an aluminum recycling plant, where he was employed until the release of Smilin' Buddha Cabaret, he was the plant foreman! We are unsure if that's the reason behind the "ACE" shirt!

Brad is a totally mellow guy that usually closes his eyes and grooves during the concert. He is totally laid back and extremely friendly with the fans which is great! When he smiles real big he has the best dimples ever!! Brad is the coolest bass player ever! Not alot is known about his personal life, although he is apparently married. (sorry!)
Brad believes everyone should have a decent cup of coffee, so please visit his website and order today! Mmmm coffee!! http://decentcoffee.com/
We love you Brad Merritt !
